Winning
entries will be announced by 8 December 2006.
The Asia Rice Foundation and the Alpha Phi Omega Service Sorority, in collaboration with the Department of Education, invite participation in A Writing Contest: Short Story on “Rice is Life”

ABOUT THE CONTEST
The present generation of young Filipinos is generally not aware of the significance of rice in
their daily lives. A writing contest: short story on “Rice is Life” aims to make the
Filipino youth aware of the role of rice, not just as food but a part of life itself. The Contest aims
to instill in the mind of the young the importance of rice and rice farmers in the lives of
Filipinos – past, present and future.

The Asia Rice Foundation is a regional nonprofit organization that works for an Asia that can feed itself, treasures the rich heritage of its rice cultures, cares about the well-being of both its rice consumers and producers, and values its rice-growing land as a precious commodity to be shared with future generations.
ABOUT THE ALPHA PHI OMEGA SERVICE SORRORITY
The Alpha Phi Omega Service Sorority, Theta Chapter, a duly recognized organization in the University of the Philippines Los Banos, is a group of young college women who share a common goal of promoting the principles of Leadership, Friendship and Service.
